The beating heart of Trinidad

The beating heart of Trinidad

Port of Spain

Port of Spain is the economic, political and cultural centre of Trinidad and one of the most important capitals in the Caribbean - an eclectic, cosmoplitan and vibrant city, home to one of the most celebrated carnivals in the world. There is plenty to see and do here and it is also a great base from which to do daytrips to other parts of the island.

Wonders of the West Coast

Wonders of the West Coast

West Coast

A journey down the west coast is a must for any visit to Trinidad. For birders and photographers Pointe-a-Pierre wildfowl trust and Caroni swamp (where spectacular scarlet ibis come in to roost) are a delight. The cities of San Fernando and Waterloo and the geological phenomena of Pitch Lake are also worth a visit.

Northern Tobago

Northern Tobago is the place to get away from it all - much less developed than the south of the island with picturesque villages, cliff-backed sandy bays and rich coral reefs popular with divers. Little Tobago island, accessed by glass-bottomed boat from the mainland, is bird sanctuary popular with walkers and birders.

Ancient rainforest reserve

Tobago Forest Reserve

Tobago Forest Reserve is the oldest protected rainforest in the western hemisphere, a haven of flora and fauna with several accessilble forest trails (most notably the Glipin Trace).

Southern Tobago

Southern Tobago's beautiful palm-fringed beaches with clear calm waters are a popular spot to swim or take glass-bottomed boats out to nearby coral reefs. This is the most developed part of the island with the main concentration of hotels, restaurants and shops.

Hotels for 'Trinidad & Tobago Odyssey'

Days 1 - 6

Alicia's Palace

St Ann's

This is the sister property to Alicia's Guest House. It is perched high on a hill top in the upmarket, leafy suburb of St Ann's. It has 30 air conditioned rooms all with private bathroom and easy access to the swimming pool, terrace and sundeck. Breakfast is served on the verandah which offers a magnificent view over Port of Spain  to the Gulf of Paria. As the hotel ranges over a steep site there are a lot of steps around the property. It would be a 15 minute walk down from the Palace to Queen's Park Savannah but happily the hotel offers a frequent shuttle bus service to their sister property - just 2 mins walk from the park.

Alicia's Palace
Days 7 - 8

Mount Plaisir Estate

Grande Riviere

An charming, easy-going hideaway hotel located directly on the beach in the quiet village of Grande Riviere on Trinidad’s remote north-east coast, below the forests of the Northern Range. The good-sized beach in front of the hotel is a great place to see leatherback turtles. They nest in numbers between March and August. Hatchlings make their hazardous journey to the sea between May and September. For birders the main attraction is the Trinidad Piping Guan, a rare endemic which can be found in forests behind the village. Recently renovated rooms decorated in a contemporary minimalist style all include energy efficient A/C and fans, mini-fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, in room safe, hair-dryer and wifi. Nov TV in rooms. Hotel facilities include a small plunge pool, restaurant, bar/lounge and gift shop.
