Refugio Amazonas, Tambopata
Tambopata
Refugio Amazonas has 24 classic rooms and 8 superior rooms in four wings connected by raised boardwalks to a central, two storey common area which serves as lobby, dining room, bar, shop and lounge. A generator is turned on three times a day to recharge batteries for guests or lodge facilities. Note that the power outlets for recharging are in the public areas and must be shared with other guests.
Each room has a private bathroom with hot water, bio degradable soap and shampoo, beds, mosquito nets, bedside tables and hammocks or lounge chairs, safe, umbrella. Standard rooms have no mains electricity and light is provided by numerous kerosene lamps and candles. Superior and Premium rooms meanwhile have their own individual power points and electric lighting from 12.00h to 13.00h and 17.00h to 22.00h. At night though we recommend you bring good torches. There is compliementary Wi-Fi access in the communal areas and wellington boots are supplied. Guests must remove their outer footwear before walking along the polished wood raised walkways around the lodge. We suggest you pack some easy/on easy off slipper type footwear for wearing in the lodge.
In addition to the regular nature focused excursions which are included in the package it is also possible to book at extra cost: massages, kayaking, canopy climbing 40m ropes and harness (8 years+), jungle mountain biking (12 years +), catch and release fishing. There is also a children's play area and anda Canopy tower with 155 steps and access to views of the treetops.
Important Note: The four bedroom wings are sheltered under shared, high, thatched roofs. The bedrooms do not have their own individual ceilings. The walls dividing each room are built using cane, and extend from the floor to about 2.5 meters in height. The side that looks out to the forest does not have a wall or screening of any kind and it acts as a large open window facing the forest (Amazingly this does not seem to necessarily mean you get bitten here). A second small window on the opposite side, set up very high, helps ventilate the room.
