Just 40 minutes drive from Panama City beyond the Miraflores lock surrounded by the forest of the Soberania National Park and set on Gatun Lake is the Gamboa Rainforest Resort, a large upper range American hotel built in 2000 and set in 340 acre property. There are 166 rooms and suites each with balconies overlooking the gardens or Chagres river, king or two queen size beds, A/C, easy chairs, mini fridge, safe, cable flatscreen TV, showers, hair dryers, iron and ironing board, coffee maker and wifi. Some larger suites have two bedrooms, living rooms and kitchenettes.
Resort facilities include 'Monkey Bar' lobby bar, main restaurant 'El Corotu' serving a daily buffet breakfast from 7-10am, lunch from 12-3pm and dinner from 6.30-9.30pm, Don Caiman lakeside restaurant and terrace serving lunch only on weekends from 12.30-3.30pm, business centre, gift shop, library area, large swimming pool with pool bar and separate kids pool, gym, full service 'Sensory' spa. A wide variety of on and off-site excursions can be arranged through the resort tour desk including nature boat tours, day and night nature walks, fishing trips and local community visits. There are resident guides, a private pier and aerial tram ride which leads to a 35m observation tower wth rainforest and canal views, butterlfy house, sloth rescue centre, orchid garden.
