You could spend an entire sabbatical year in Chile without setting foot anywhere else on the continent. But if you like to cover a lot of ground on your holidays there are some very tempting ways to combine Chile with its neighbours.
Chile has good flight connections with Argentina, a handful of border crossings by road, and the fabulous 'lake crossing' between the Argentine and Chilean Lake Districts.
Patagonia spans both nations and there are several connections between the two in the far south, beyond the extreme physical barrier of the Andes. BA flies direct to Buenos Aires in Argentina as well as Santiago in Chile, so 'open-jaw' tickets are possible and good value.
