As specialists we have been monitoring accommodation since 2010. We visit the country at least once a year and we also have our clients providing us with feedback and reports.
Facts to consider when selecting the regions or destinations:
Bolivia does not offer as many options for luxury accommodation as its neighbouring countries. With some exceptions in her main cities, Bolivia is not yet prepared for those looking for the very top echelons of high-end service and luxury standards. It does offers some unique locations in very isolated areas that are comfortable.
The main cities of La Paz and Santa Cruz offer good quality hotels at all price points, both cities will be the best places to stay if looking for comfort and complete relaxation at the start or end of your trip.
The colonial city of Sucre has many beautiful boutique hotels.
Potosi is a city where compromises need to be made in terms of accommodation and service, we sometimes recommend not to stay overnight if your standards can't be met, but we do recommend a city tour which includes a visit to the famous mint.
The town of Uyuni has limited standard accommodation, and we recommend staying at the Salt Hotels, both 20 minutes drive away on the shores of the salt flats. If you opt to extend your visit from to the Bolivian desert most accommodation is very basic, except from a couple of lodges that offer good shelter, warm food and hot showers.
In the Amazon regions we select comfortable lodges or guesthouses.
