Bolivia

Combining Bolivia with other countries

The variety to be found in Bolivia's topography and culture is immense. There is more than enough to experience in one trip - perhaps several. Bolivia also combines nicely with other countries.

The variety to be found in Bolivia's topography and culture is immense. It spans from waterlogged Amazon lowlands to high Andean salt flats and imposing volcanoes, from traditional Andean villages to buzzing cities. There is more than enough to experience in one trip - perhaps several.

If you do want to see even more, then you'll find that Bolivia combines very well with its immediate neighbours: Peru, Chile, Argentina and Brazil.

Bolivia and Peru

Almost all of the itineraries we suggest for a tailor-made holiday in Bolivia could be easily extended to visit Peru.

There is easy access to Puno in Peru by land along the shores of Lake Titicaca, and by air from La Paz to Cusco or Lima.

Bolivia and Chile

There is a spectacular overland route from Bolivia's Uyuni salt flats, through Eduardo Avaroa National Park (with its unmissable Laguna Verde and Laguna Colorada), and arriving in San Pedro in Chile's Atacama Desert.

An alternative excellent but less well-known route, again from Uyuni, passes into Chile further north, and brings you into Chile's Lauca national park.

Our 'Touch the Sky' itinerary takes advantage of both routes to create a spectacular trip in the High Andes.

Bolivia and Argentina

It is possible to cross overland high in the Andes into northwest Argentina and the spectacular landscapes around Salta and the wine region of Cafayate.

If wine is your thing, there is a land crossing beside the Andes that connects Salta with the superb Bolivian wine region of Tarija.

There are good flight services from Santa Cruz to Buenos Aires in Argentina.

Call us for advice and practical ideas, and see the Argentina section of this website.

Bolivia and Brazil

There are direct flights from Santa Cruz to Sao Paulo - the main hub for onwards flights to the rest of Brazil, and from there they would connect with most of our Brazil itineraries.

Bolivia and Brazil share the Pantanal, the world's largest tropical wetland, which also extends into Paraguay.

It is possible to travel overland between the Bolivian Pantanal and Misiones and Brazil's southern Pantanal, travelling through the border towns of Corumba and Puerto Suarez.
